< Like my other auctions for copies of Instruction Manuals, this is a Buy-It-Now type, which means there is no need to wait for an end of the auction ! The price is the same, so if you would like one, just click and it is yours ! < This is for clear copies of the Official Union Switch & Signal Catalog Insert describing in depth their new UR Style of Interlocking machine !  They chose Union Route as their descriptive phrase.

Basically a very upgraded Entrance Exit Push Button style of machine, where the operator simply pushed the button where the train was approaching from and then another button at the desired exit of the interlocking plant.

All switches and signals then operated as desired to create the route, and the signal(s) were cleared for the movement !

The other company, GRS, had already made a hit with a similar style machine, calling theirs NX for eNtrance eXit, quite catchy !  Girard Junction on the NYC had one installed to handle the PRR Trains using the NYC to get into Dock Junction in Erie, PA from the E & P Branch of the PRR.

A UR machine with electric switch operation preceded this as the very first UR.

The machine pictured was my favorite to work, installed as the first EP / Electro Pneumatic UR machine in America !  Installed in 1938 on the Central Railroad of New Jersey ( CNJ, JCL) to replace three separate towers at the very important four way junction at Elizabethport, NJ.

Here is (not included) an ad from US&S showing the panel.

Telegraph Call RU, was the reverse of UR !  A dream to operate, there could be 7 simultaneous moves though the massive plant ! Branches connected to Newark and also the Jersey Shore.

Two large freight yards were situated west of the tower on each side, and a large engine terminal and construction and repair facility was located on the north side east of the tower. So multiple movements at any given time were normal.

There are ten pages, one in color, and a title page. This Bulletin was dated as Revised Feb. 5, 1941.

A huge leap ahead for signal technology back then, and the plant was functional until ConRail destroyed it after April Fools’ Day in 1976.

A nice and real piece of railroadiana !  Shipped FREE via first class mail, other options always available if desired at extra cost.

As always, I will combine purchases when possible to $ave on $hipping, as two items might ship for slightly more than one !  FREE Local pick up / delivery is always another option.

There are many more real RR items, signals, models, etc. listed, feel free to browse my goodies !

I pack carefully and ship quickly, and have earned my high feedback.
