Union Pacific CS-1 Cast Brass Switch Lock
Here we have a very nice brass heart lock cast “Union Pacific” in fancy stair-step lettering on the back panel, and stamped 351 on the shackle, indicating that this lock was manufactured in the fall of 1951. The hallmark of the manufacturer, Adlake, is stamped on the key cover. (The “CS 1” cast on the back dates from the turn of the Twentieth Century, when E. H. Harriman tried to make the railroads he controlled more efficient by imposing a “common standard” on their purchases.)
The lock is in great condition, with a nice dark patina and no blemishes that I can see. There’s good spring in the dust cover, and the lock works with the proper key, though the shackle needs a tug to open Overall, it’s a superior specimen, an essential addition to any UP collection, and a solid entry point into cast brass switch locks.
I am selling a couple other railroad artifacts, including a N&W fancy brass cast lock and a Cincinnati Northern (a New York Central predecessor) brass lock, so see my other items. I’ll happily combine shipping to lower your costs.
Please contact me to discuss alternative payment arrangements. I have 30 years in the hobby, and I guarantee your satisfaction. Just let me know you plan to return any item within three days of receiving it (not 14 days as eBay indicates), and when I receive it, I’ll refund the purchase price. Looking for other locks and keys? Contact me, and be sure to tell me what you collect.
Thanks, Robb
