Virgin Trains East Coast is the rail passengerfranchise which provides long distance rail services over the East CoastMain Line from London Kings Cross to Yorkshire, Lincs and Humberside,the North East and Scotland, using Class 91/MkIV electric andHST diesel trainsets at a maximum speed of 125mph. It commenced operation on1 March 2015 for a 10 year term and is a collaboration between Stagecoach (90%) andVirgin Trains (10%).
Originally intended to rununtil 2023 and return 3.3 billion to the government in the form of franchisepremiums, due to the line performing below VTEC’s expectations, it wasannounced in May 2018 that the contract would be terminated early by thegovernment, with the operation transferred to a government owned operator oflast resort, London North Eastern Railway with VTEC ceasing to operate at theconclusion of service on 23 June 2018.
TheGovernment plans to retender the Intercity East Coast operation as a “Partnership” with NetworkRail in 2020.This item comprises: the “Timetable tickets and tips” booklet for all services Winter 2017/18.
Operative dates for the services in the booklet are 10 December 2017 to 19 May 2018.
