A smashing example of a WW-II
Railway Guard’s Paraffin-Fuelled
Hand Held
Red Warning Lamp
dated 1943

In generally lovely order with all the glass intact,
(We’ve had the earlier 1939 dated examples before with hairline cracks in the glass, alas)
this lamp is all up together and bears a good
King’s Crown GR name plate for S.N.L.W. Ltd
(The Smith’s Newall Lamp Works)
above a date for 1943.

The inside burner & wick is all complete,
so we are assuming it could be made to work again?

The black paint-work is very good
(though may have been sympathetically restored) but either
way this a beautiful looking little lamp
and great to find a later, mid-war issued example.

Measuring approx 8.5″ high with handle upright, this is
a smashing WW-II Home Front railway item…

Thanks for looking..!
