BRITISH RAILWAYS ENGLISH ELECTRIC CLASS 55 DELTIC LOCOMOTIVENAPIER D-18-25 ENGINE CRANKCASE WITH LEG OUT OF BED DAMAGE FROM 55 022 ROYALSCOTS GREYAn extremely rare and possibly unique occasion to be able topurchase a Deltic Diesel Loco Crankcase after suffering the damage of acatastrophic Leg out of bed engine failure. On the 6th October 2006 after a lengthy overhaulex British Rail Deltic Locomotive 55 022, previously D9000 and the doyen of theClass named Royal Scots Grey departed Londons Kings Cross station with the AutumnHighlander heading for Inverness. Shortly after leaving Doncaster, the leadingengine, RSGs Number 2 engine, Power Unit 413 suffered a disastrous failure, known in the industry as a leg out of bed. The loco hauled the train as far as Edinburgh, stillachieving 100 Miles Per Hour with the locos Number 1 Power Unit working alone. This was another sad day in Deltic history and despite immense efforts thedamaged engine was never repaired, due to lack of expertise and lack ofsourcing anyone prepared to carry out the work. Luckily alternative engineswere sourced and the loco even hauled the same train the following year fromKings Cross!!For sale here is the damaged B C Crankcase from Power Unit413 as can be seen in the photos, it weighs around 100 Kgs and measures justless than 1.6 Metres in length. It has been stored in Huddersfield since beingreturned from a Company in Tyneside who stripped the engine down in 2007. I really have no idea of a true value of this unique pieceof Deltic Railwayana and have listed it with a starting price of what it wouldprobably fetch at a scrapyard, it is made from aluminium as Im sure anyonewith a serious interest will know. I have listed this as collection in person from Huddersfield,it would require a van or pick up and we can load it with a fork lift truck. Alternatively, delivery could be arranged at the buyers expense, the cost of this would besubject to location.A few photos are included showing the crankcase itself, whenit was still fitted in the loco, 55 022 Royal Scots Grey departing fromDoncaster seconds before the failure and the engine before strip down. Shouldyou have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask and I will try my best toanswer.***PRICE FOR DELIVERY IF REQUIRED WILL BE CHARGED SEPERATELY***PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS LISTED AS AN AUCTION DUE TO THEUNIQUE NATURE. PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR IT BUY IT NOW PRICE AS I HAVE DECIDED TOSELL BY AUCTION, OFFERS IN S WITH AT LEAST 4 0000S ON THE END WOULD OFCOURSE BE CONSIDERED!!!  THANK YOU:<)
