This Video was filmed over 38 years ago

The deltics were withdrawn in 1982

and later that year in August 1982 Two deltics were saved from the cutters torch these being 55009 and 55019,And so I was invited to the works at Doncaster to film the handing over ceremony by

Derek Clarke(works manager)

The Mayor Of Doncaster

Mr J.A Sourbut(C.E.M York)

David Carter(Chairman of the DPS)

Before this ceremony took place I was going backwards and forwards to Doncaster works and filming various work done on the locomotives, From the scrapline and inside the works shows various jobs done over weeks.

This Special video have never been seen since the days I filmed it way back in 1982

so you are in for some great moments in time

As the ceremony ended the two deltics were started up and driven a short distance through the white ribbon across the track with David Carter blowing his whistle

The two deltics leave doncaster being towed by a class 37 to the NYMR

At Grosmont about 7am Waiting for the deltics to arrive behind the class 37

Various shunting of the deltics up and down etc

Deltic 55019 Departs with the Deltic Pioneer

Deltic 55019 Arrives at Pickering to the sounds of a lone piper on his bagpipes playing amazing grace etc

Ceremony With David Carter and the NYMR Staff where an attempt to smash a bottle of champagne failed twice,So in the end David Carter had to smash the bottle on the buffer.

I board a train and filmed the journey back to Grosmont and it was here that the last battery of my portable Betamax System run out

So video ends there

All the proceeds from these dvds will be used to finance the archive and to make other videos of deltic locomotives Available

No Comments on dvd as I sometimes speak and explain as we go along

what you see on the dvd is as it was filmed and no edits to remove bad camera movements.

EVERYTHING that was recorded you see.

Sometimes as im walking around you can hear the sound of the weight of the portable betamax recorder on my shoulder and camera that weighed around 20kgs

Derek Porter was asked to carry it once and he said “I dont fancy carrying this for a lark

“ITS HEAVY – REALLY HEAVY”

There is artwork on the dvd but no case

this is done to keep costs down
